It’s been several months since Inga Tunold was supposed to be confirmed, but a global pandemic has repeatedly brought the celebration to an end.

– I was hoping it was finally something from now. I really wanted to reunite the family and celebrate, says Tunold.

The 15-year-old has been closely following the infection situation in Oslo and today made the difficult decision to cancel the confirmation celebration.

– Right now it is more important to think about infection control than confirmation celebrations, says Tunold.

Definitely

On Monday afternoon, the municipality of Oslo presented new measures to limit the infection in the capital.

– If you can postpone the confirmation, the wedding or the party, do so, Councilman Raymond Johansen said at a news conference.

Inga will be confirmed at the Oslo Concert Hall next Saturday. The family does not yet know if the ceremony will proceed normally, but has decided to cancel the party anyway.

– We have been thinking about it for a few days and I have talked a lot with my mother about it. So when we listened to the advice of the authorities, he really had no doubts about what to do, says Tunold.

No party no grandparents

In reality, Inga was supposed to be confirmed in May, but the confirmation was postponed first until October and then until November. Now they have chosen to postpone the celebration once again.

– It is very sad. I’ve been waiting for it for so long, says Tunold.

The couple planned a wedding for two years, then the groom went to the hairdresser and the party had to be canceled.

The party was to be held at a hotel and Inga was looking forward to good food, speeches, and gifts. However, the most important thing was being able to gather the whole family.

– I want everyone who comes to the confirmation to feel safe and have a good time. My grandparents shouldn’t worry about getting infected if they come, says Tunold.

– I hope all the children can hug Grandma and Grandpa at Christmas.

It was also not an option to organize the party without her grandparents, so Inga decided to postpone the party for the third time.

Adult done

Inga’s mother, Anita Tunold, is impressed with the choice her daughter has made.

– It is very mature that you have made that decision. It’s clear proof that she’s ready to join the ranks of adults, Tunold says.

Health Deputy Director Espen Nakstad agrees.

– It is very unfortunate that the confirmations are affected by the pandemic and infection control measures in Norway. Many have waited for confirmation and may also incur higher costs by having to postpone planned marks. The fact that Inga still follows the advice and postpones the celebration is highly respected, he says.

Nakstad hopes that she will be able to carry out the ceremony from time to time, but says that of course it is something the 15-year-old should consider.

– It is a great example of how young people take infection control advice seriously and help us to continue to have control over the spread of infection in Norway, says Nakstad.

Hoping to vacation for the summer

The family says they hope there may be a confirmation celebration this summer.

– It is very unpredictable, but we have to wait until we can celebrate in pleasant and vaccinated conditions, says Anita Tunold.

Inga is looking forward to the day when she can put on her bunada and celebrate with her family.

– I have a little hope that we can celebrate this summer. I just have to have faith, says Tunold.
