– Crisis management in Lyngdal Municipality is not ignoring the fact that a major local outbreak may be underway. Residents are now being asked to be more careful and strictly adhere to current guidelines for infection control, the municipality writes in a press release.
The background is two larger gatherings last weekend in a foreign language setting connected to a congregation in Lyngdal. Two of the participants tested positive for covid-19. According to the municipal chief, these meetings were attended by hundreds of people, both children and adults.
Extensive infection screening has started and 99 people are in quarantine.
– This is very worrying. We are waiting for the test results tonight and today we have examined 160 people, City Chief Physician Henriette Pettersen told Lyngdals Avis.
According to Fædrelandsvennen, it is a Romanian environment that has organized the meetings, which took place in Bethany in Lyngdal last Friday and Sunday.
This was before the rules were tightened so that it could only have 50 participants inside. Therefore, the infection control rules have not been broken, but the municipality came out last week and advised residents to refrain from social events.
– It may seem that the Romanian environment has not accepted these recommendations. There are some language difficulties, and today we had to hire an interpreter, says the municipal chief.
