A person aboard Hurtigruten’s MS ‘Finnmarken’ ship tested positive for the coronavirus.
Hurtigruten press officer Øystein Knoph confirms that a guest aboard the ship tested positive for COVID-19. Hurtigruten received the message on Saturday afternoon.
– The person in question is a foreign national and is associated with the charter assignment Hurtigruten rents from “Finnmarken”, Knoph tells VG.
The MS “Finnmarken” is rented and used as a hotel ship in connection with the recording of “Mission Impossible”, after replacing the controversial cruise ship “Fridtjof Nansen”. On Saturday afternoon, the ship is in Hellesylt in the municipality of Stranda.

Report: This went wrong with Hurtigruten
– The person in question arrived at MS ‘Finnmarken’ in Hellesylt on Saturday morning. The person has no symptoms of illness and will be tested again on Saturday afternoon. The result of test number two is expected overnight on Saturday or Sunday. No one else on the ship has symptoms of illness, Knoph continues.
– Following the advice of FHI, the person in question is isolated on land. Hurtigruten is in dialogue with local and national health authorities and follows all their advice and recommendations. When Hurtigruten receives a clear signal from authorities, the ship will sail to Åndalsnes on Saturday night as scheduled, without the person on board, he says.
The chief infection control physician in Rauma municipality, Jon Sverre Aursand, confirms that the tests are underway. Until yesterday, the MS ‘Finnmarken’ was at the Åndalsnes pier in Rauma.
– We are waiting for the test results before we can say anything more about this. We cooperate well, both with those on the Hellesylt side, where the ship is now, the health personnel involved on the Hurtigruten side, and with FHI, says Aursand.

Hurtigruten: Resolve the conflict by changing ships to one with Norwegian crew
MS “Fridtjof Nansen” was until recently one of two Hurtigruten ships leased from TrueNorth production company, and was used as a hotel ship.
However, the authorities reacted to the use of the boat, which could be illegal. The background is that the ship is registered in the Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS), and that the use of these ships as hotels may be a violation of the NIS Law.
Last week Hurtigruten decided to replace “Fridtjof Nansen” with the NOR registered “Finnmarken”.
