An Indian woman who was found trapped by her husband in a bathroom has now been rescued.
The British Independent covers the case on Friday.
According to the newspaper, the woman must have been locked in the bathroom for more than a year.
Local police in the Indian city of Panipat moved to the roof of a building on Tuesday this week. There was a bathroom on the roof of the building, and there the woman was found very malnourished.
Released on bail
The woman’s husband was arrested and charged with violence and imprisonment of his wife. He denies criminal guilt and claims that his wife is mentally “unstable,” according to The Independent.
A day later, the man was released on bail.
Rajni Gupta, a spokesperson for the agency that works to protect women in India, told the Hindustan Times that the woman was in very poor condition and could barely walk.
– It seemed that he had not eaten in many days, says the Independent spokesperson.
Worried about children
The 33-year-old now lives with her cousins. Indian authorities are now concerned about the woman and her husband’s three children, who live with the man.
Gupta says they are working to find out why none of the children notified any family members or authorities about the father’s behavior.
The status of the woman should be examined.
