Most of the cases were reported in Oslo and Viken.
Vestland, Rogaland, Trøndelag and Nordland counties reported fewer cases than the previous week, while the number of cases was unchanged in Troms and Finnmark.
374 new people were reported to have been infected with the coronavirus last week, according to FHI.
728,124 people in Norway have been tested for the coronavirus. That’s roughly 13.6 percent of Norway’s population. Most of those tested do not have the coronavirus, according to the director of the Line Vold department of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.
You should consider quitting
– We have been through six difficult months and some difficult discussions. In the last week, we have talked about quitting drinking. There are pros and cons to all the measures we propose. During the summer, several municipalities reported that there were problems maintaining infection measures in the catering industry, says Health Minister Bent Høie.
– This will be the case whether the party takes place in the city or at home, he adds. He believes that stopping drinking has led to fewer infections.
The Health Minister says the government will reach a conclusion on stopping the bar in mid-September.
He also emphasizes that the drinking discontinuation did not come as a result of dissatisfaction with the fact that the restaurant industry did not follow the infection rules, but because the guests were unable to comply with them.
Ivar Horneland Kristensen, CEO of Virke, says it is “completely incomprehensible” that the Health Minister is continuing the bar stop.
– For several weeks we have seen the consequences of this, in which private meetings have become contagious parties. This is exactly what Virke and the industry itself realized when the ban on alcoholic beverages was introduced. It’s better for people to party with serious players in the restaurant industry than in private rooms where no one makes sure that infection control rules are followed, Kristensen says in an email to NRK.
Various local shoots
Recently, there have been several new outbreaks of infection in Norway. In Bergen, a total of 94 students from the Norwegian School of Management (NHH) tested positive.
The outbreak may be due to a party the club and NHH’s cultural committee threw in the basement of the school on Monday of last week.
In Fredrikstad, 10 new infected people were registered on Tuesday. 65 people have been quarantined in the municipality. One of the infected is a student at Hauge primary school, while another attends Haugeløkka kindergarten.
– Despite outbreaks and local clusters, we do not see an increase in hospital admissions, intensive care unit admissions or deaths associated with covid-19, says department director Line Vold at the National Institute of Public Health .
One explanation for this may be that the infection in recent weeks has mostly occurred in younger people, he says.
Currently, 13 people are hospitalized with coronary heart disease in Norwegian hospitals, the NRK overview shows.
NIPH opens for yellow regions in Sweden
On Tuesday, FHI recommended that the entry quarantine be removed for various regions of Sweden and Zealand in Denmark. The Swedish regions affected are Örebro, Gotland, Värmland, Västernorrland, Jämtland and Västerbotten.
At the same time, the National Institute of Public Health recommended the introduction of entry quarantine for Italy, the Vatican City State, San Marino and Slovenia.
At the press conference, Høie says the government will consider the recommendations to the NIPH during the week.
– But it is, we generally follow the recommendations, and then there will be a set of rules that go into effect on Saturday night, says Høie.
On Monday, 139 new cases of infection were registered in Norway. This is the highest number of new confirmed infection cases in one day since April 7.
Astra Zeneca in the final testing phase
On Tuesday, the pharmaceutical company Astra Zeneca announced that the vaccine the EU has ordered is now in the final phase of clinical trials in the US, according to the DPA news agency.
Through Sweden, Norway has secured access to the vaccine through the EU vaccine agreement. On Monday, Swedish authorities announced that the EU could soon have four new vaccine agreements ready.
It is with the pharmaceutical companies Sanofi and GSK, Curevac, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, according to Sweden’s vaccine coordinator Richard Bergström.
