OSLO DISTRICT COURT (VG) Petter Northug made an unreserved confession Monday. He explained that he filmed an overtaking while commenting in a “commentator’s voice.”
At 1:45 p.m., Petter Northug (34) was convicted after the charge, which deals with wild driving at high speeds and drug-related crimes. The Oslo District Court sets the sentence at seven months of unconditional imprisonment and loss of driving license forever. Northug accepts the verdict.
Northug himself is not present in court 250 of the Oslo District Court, but is represented by his defender Halvard Helle. The defendant argued that five months in prison would be a more appropriate level of punishment and that it would be beneficial for Northug to be able to serve his sentence with an anklet.
– There is no doubt that you put yourself and other road users in significant and unnecessary danger of being injured or killed, says Judge Ole Kristen Øverberg.
He points out that it is aggravating that Northug recorded wild driving videos and showed them to his friends.
– Strong measures must be taken. It is aggravating that the defendant has been previously convicted of various traffic law violations and deprived of his driver’s license forever. Just one year after getting his driver’s license back, this happened. This indicates that he did not learn from the first verdict, read Øverberg from the verdict.
