On the night of December 30, Odd Steinar Sørengen is awakened by his partner, Ann-Mari.
– We have to go out! The house is collapsing!
In English, Odd Steinar thinks he’s on fire. He runs after the partner and his daughter, Victoria, down the stairs.
Then you feel the whole house shaking. It is not a fire. Hear Victoria and Ann-Mari walk out the door. But with only two steps remaining, the entire house collapses.
In the ruins of your own home
Odd Steinar takes over the entire house, but ends up in what he describes as an “air bubble”. Finally, emerge from the ruins.
He sits on top of what is left of his own house and does not understand what has happened.
It was VG who mentioned the case for the first time.
– I started calling Ann-Mari. And I think I remember I got an answer, Odd Steinar tells TV 2.
Keep screaming, but the answer comes from afar. The screams are eventually drowned out by the sound of a rescue helicopter. Odd Steinar is picked up and transported to Ahus.
In the hospital, his temperature is measured at 30 degrees. He is cold and very beaten. When TV 2 meets Odd Steinar, he has clear wounds on his face.
But the physical damage is not the worst. Neither Ann-Mari nor Victoria have been accounted for since their home collapsed.
– I’d love to swap places with my daughter. So that she could have come here and they would have missed me, Odd Steinar says with tears in his eyes.
It is especially the uncertainty surrounding the situation that is difficult.
– Entering the uncertainty and knowing that it takes more and more time before they meet, and that the possibilities only get smaller and smaller, is difficult. But the police say we must not lose hope.
I had relocation plans
The next few days will be difficult for Odd Steinar and his family. After being released from the hospital today, he will live with his mother in Gjerdrum, where his two older children are also.
Shortly before the house collapsed, the family had already decided to move out of Ask.
– We had plans to move now in the new year. He had bought an apartment and it was ready. So this is completely unrealistic and I never thought this could happen, says Odd Steinar.
