Municipal Chief Physician Silje Kodal in Hol Municipality encourages winter holiday tourists to wait for test results before traveling. This after a person took the test before going to the municipality of Hol, but did not wait for the test result, which turned out to be positive.
– It was a family of tourists who traveled here in connection with the winter holidays before receiving the test result. The results of one of the people’s tests came back positive, and in hindsight the other two at home also tested positive for COVID-19, Koldal tells Dagbladet and continues:
– We have good control. We act early and the infected are isolated. We do not expect it to spread to the local community as a result of these cases of infection.
Problematic
Hallingdølen was the first to mention the case. Koldal tells Dagbladet that she and the municipality are not very enthusiastic about the fact that there are examples of tourists not waiting for test results before traveling to Hol on vacation.
– It is problematic to travel before receiving the test result. This can potentially lead to people transferring the infection here at a time when there are many more people than normal in the municipality, Koldal says, continuing:
– These cases create uncertainty, especially in relation to the spread of infection, but they also expose the system to additional stress.
Their potential problems can threaten emergency preparedness in the municipality. If you are traveling before the test result is available and it turns out you have tested positive, then you must complete the isolation period in the cabin or hotel.
– When you test positive, you cannot drive on the road again, as it may endanger other road users. So you’re a bit stuck in that situation, whether it’s in a hotel or where it should be.
Sick trip question
Health director Bjørn Guldvog addressed the issue during Wednesday’s press conference.
– If it is the case that you wait for a test answer before traveling on vacation, wait to travel to the cabin until you have received the answer, says Guldvog.
It says that the Norwegian Health Directorate was asked if it is possible to be in quarantine or in isolation in the cabin. Guldvog says they recommend that you take both the quarantine period and the home isolation period.
– You may get sick and need medical attention, and you may also need to be tested again. We do not want to unnecessarily overload the health service in the cabin areas, so it is advised that if you start to feel bad, you should go home safely, so that you do not come into contact with other people on the trip.
In the past, the Norwegian Health Directorate and the National Institute of Public Health in their winter holidays advice have encouraged the population to avoid unnecessary trips, but they opened that it can still be done during winter holidays if you have special Watch out for infection control throughout and at the resort.
