I test myself often, that’s the only ethically correct thing I can do

The infection tutor does not provide teachers and students with realistic protection.

Teaching with a mask is not very realistic. But when the government doesn’t allocate enough resources to small enough groups and enough rooms, I have to take responsibility by testing myself and wearing bandages in the densely populated public transport, writes associate professor Christian Lomsdalen. I’m testing myself for korona about once a month, because it is the only ethically correct thing to do when the government and the Directorate of Education do not guarantee teachers safe working conditions.

As a teacher in high school, I am responsible for three classes of more than 30 students and one class of 16 students. One of the classes is a syllabus subject, so it has students from most of the school’s classes, both VG2 and VG3. There are many close contacts during a fourteen day period.

The Directorate of Education The infection control guidance in schools means little or no realistic protection for me as a teacher and for the students. In terms of infection control, it does not help students to maintain a distance of one meter outside the classroom, when the meter rule does not apply inside the classroom.

Nor is it that the subway rule outside the classroom can be said to be realistic. This is reinforced by the fact that in upper secondary school red has actually been removed from the traffic light model, there is no longer any difference between yellow and red for upper secondary school.

There is talk of that young children are contagious to some degree. It may be so. But the high school students are starting to grow quite a bit, and my students in high school are pr. definition adults.

Children over six years of age traveling by plane must wear a mask. However, they should not take further action when they are in close contact with 15-30 other people for more than 20 hours a week.

One might suggest which you should teach with a mask, but is not realistic to implement. It will not be a good teaching, and pedagogically it is very difficult. Nurses and other health professionals who are also on the front line may have protective gear. It is very difficult for us teachers.

When the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and Care Services of Guri Melby and Bent Høie do not take responsibility for their teachers in providing enough resources for small enough groups and enough rooms, then I have to do the only thing ethically correct.

I’m testing myself by corona at irregular intervals, although I have no symptoms, have not traveled abroad or been in close contact with known infected persons.

Simply because washing my hands, wearing a bandage on crowded public transportation, and taking a corona test is what I, as a teacher, can do to protect my students when I still have to treat them the way I have to.
