Together with his brother, Markus Gjelseth, he runs the Albert Bistro and Louise Restaurant and Bar at Aker Brygge in Oslo.
On Friday, Councilman Raymond Johansen announced that all restaurants in the capital will be banned from drinking starting Monday.
Thus, he has spent the day in crisis meetings for the Gjelseth brothers. As of Monday, its two discos will be closed indefinitely.
– I’m struggling to see that we can open again in 2020. I don’t think they’ll open in droves in Oslo until next year, says Joppe Gjelseth.
Therefore, all 100 employees are fired.
– We have several who do not receive help from Nav, and some of the employees have work visas. That is, they will be deported from the country if they are not allowed to work so many hours during the week, he tells E24.

– Strengthening can contribute to many people being infected, people dying and we have to close even more. That is what we are trying to prevent, says the Minister of Justice. VG.
At the same time, the nightlife giant Noho Norway is sending out redundancy notices once again.
– Everyone is fired. We’ll probably have a couple left in the office who, besides me, will have to continue until further notice, but it won’t be that long until it doesn’t make sense to me either, says CEO Karl-Henning Svendsen.
The company operates several of Oslo’s largest nightclubs, including Kulturhuset, Prindsens Hage, Oslo Camping, Youngs, and Colonel Mustard.

– Take the life out of the nightlife
On Friday afternoon, Trade and Industry Minister Iselin Nybø stated that they will consider new measures and that there may be a broader support scheme for the business community next week.
The nightlife industry has long been desperate for help in overcoming the crisis. Now it’s really urgent, they think.
– If the cash support does not return, the authorities will claim the life of much of the nightlife in Oslo as we know it today, Joppe Gjelseth tells E24 on Friday afternoon.
React strongly to the fact that the same support plans have not yet been introduced as this spring.
– It seems strange to us that in March, April and May they had a compensation of 80 percent of some of our fixed expenses, unavoidable, where all had good coverage in the months that were a little affected. At the same time, the industries it has been in for a long time have seen their cash subsidies gradually reduced. It should have been the exact opposite, says Joppe Gjelseth.

– No matter how you turn and turn, Erna and Raymond shut down the restaurant and nightlife industry. I suppose we will soon have a stock worth about 200,000 kroner to be thrown away, says Gjelseth.
Both Gjelseth and Svendsen emphasize that they understand strict measures.
– We have asked for clarity and clarity. We have it now. We’ve felt this has been a sneaky shutdown so far, says Svendsen in Noho Norway.
– When Erna goes out and asks people to stay home, we don’t want to stay on the other side and ask people to do something else. We do this to save the company, but also to support Norway and Erna, says Gjelseth.
Still, it doesn’t hide the fact that they are concerned about how the industry will look on the other side of the pandemic.
– Of course there will be new players on the market, but then only the big players will enter the field, he says.
