The change of ship will resolve a long-standing disagreement over the use of the cruise ship MS “Fridtjof Nansen”, which is located at the Hellesylt pier.

The ship has been used as a hotel by the film crew during the filming of the seventh edition of “Mission Impossible”.

On Monday, the parties were summoned before the Minister of Commerce and Industry Iselin Nybø (V). She asked the company to change what she and the police believe to be an illegal practice.

– We are pleased that the production company was willing to find a solution with us and that they have accepted Hurtigruten’s proposal to replace MS Fridtjof Nansen with MS Finnmarken as a chartered ship in connection with the shoot, says Anne Marit Bjørnflaten, Contact Director of authority in Hurtigruten.

– Together with MS Vesterålen, which is still part of the agreement, MS Finnmarken will be at the Åndalsnes pier for the remainder of the lease period. Both ships are registered with the Norwegian Ordinary Ship Register (NOR), says Anne Marit Bjørnflaten, director of government contact at Hurtigruten.

MS Finnmarken will begin the mission early next week, with a Norwegian flag and a Norwegian crew.

The crew is not affected

However, Hurtigruten maintains that they are operating within the law by using the MS “Fridtjof Nansen” as a hotel, and that the rental is an extraordinary one-time event.

– The Norwegian Maritime Directorate has confirmed that the ship is not considered a hotel ship, that the use of the ship is within NIS law and therefore fully legal, says Bjørnflaten.

– But after Minister Iselin Nybø made it clear that she wanted to make a regulatory change to change the NIS rules, we began the work of looking for alternative solutions. This is done in dialogue with the ministry, the unions and the client.

According to Bjørnflaten, the international crew of MS Fridtjof Nansen will not be affected by the change.

– This means that, of course, we will pay them according to Norwegian terms during the agreement period, as has been the plan from the beginning.
