A man was arrested after what police describe as a threatening situation in Indre Østfold. The police armed themselves before moving to Spydeberg’s address at around 3.30pm.

– We were notified that there was an aggressive person inside a private house. He is also said to have been in possession of something resembling a hand grenade, says Task Chief Kjetil Ringseth in the Eastern Police District.

Police took control of the man after more than an hour and a half. Inside the apartment a smoke grenade and several hoods were found.

The bomb squad destroyed explosives

The police bomb squad contributed to the search of the house.

– In addition to the grenade, it is said that there may be explosives in the home. Discussion of it has not been confirmed but is now being investigated, Assignment Manager Ringseth told NRK Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly before 7 pm, the bomb squad destroyed the explosives found at the address on a gravel roof. According to Smaalenenes Avis, it is the feng hats that were rendered harmless.

Police established a security zone around the home Wednesday afternoon, but there was free movement of people in the area.

– The incident does not pose a danger to other people in the area, says Ringseth.
