Horse torture shocks France – intense hunt for perpetrators – NRK Urix – Foreign news and documentaries

Dead horses have been found with their ears cut off, their eyes removed and their genitalia cut off.

The bestial abuse and horrific murders of the horses have upset people in France, and the police have now begun their search for two suspects in the case.

About 40 policemen were airlifted to the town of Losne, near Dijon, on Sunday after a new horse was attacked there on Sunday morning.

The horse is not said to have been seriously injured, but police link the attack and the injuries to the numerous attacks on horses in France. Since August alone, police estimate that around 30 horses have been abused or killed.

It is not yet known what the motive of those responsible for the attacks is.

– A cruel savagery

Serge Lecomte, president of the French Equestrian Federation, is shocked by the abuse.

– It is a cruel savagery that we have rarely seen before, he tells AFP.

– Is it a cult? Cruelty to animals is the precursor to cruelty to humans, he believes.

Agriculture Minister Julien Denormandie has already promised that those responsible for the attacks will be brought to justice. Describe the actions as barbarism.

Police recently released a computer-animated image of what they believe may be one of the perpetrators, but so far no one has been arrested in this particular case.

Desperate horse owners

Jean-Michel Martinot and Virginie Martinot, who run a riding school together, are one of the horse owners who have been affected by abuse.

A foal was found on the ground, killed with one ear cut off.

– The horse had been stabbed in the heart. She had one ear cut off and one eye and genitals had been removed, says Virginie Martinot.

In a post on social media, the couple asks others to share their story to raise awareness among other horse owners in France and help catch the killers.

Another desperate horse owner, Mélissa Veron, says she found the three-year-old mare dead from abuse in the stable.

“He was missing one ear and they took out half of his eye,” he told LCI television this summer.

– A satanic ritual?

Nicolas Demajean, who runs a shelter for about 100 abandoned and abused horses, Ranch of Hope, says his arm was injured while fighting an intruder equipped with a knife.

– Before, I dared to graze my horses, says Demajean to the television channel France 3.

Between 2014 and 2016, similar murders and torture of horses also occurred in Belgium and Germany. However, the high number in France in such a short time is unusual.

– We do not understand the motivation, says a police spokeswoman in Paris.

– Is it a satanic ritual, an insurance fraud, a form of macabre trophy hunting or an online challenge? We do not know.
