On Saturday, Himanshu Gulati won the party’s vote for second place on the Storting’s list for Akershus Frp.
He challenged Liv Gustavsen. Gustavsen was nominated for second place on the list by the Akershus Frp nominating committee.
The nominating committee is tasked with proposing candidates for the Storting list, which will then be voted on by the county team. They do it at the nomination meeting and there all votes count equally.
If someone wants to challenge some of those on the list, a kind of “duel” ensues. Then everyone who has attended the nomination meeting will vote which candidate they would like to have in the relevant position.
Won by eleven votes
The nominating committee in Akershus Frp had placed Liv Gustavsen in second place, with a minority at odds with Gulati.
But at today’s nomination meeting in Årnes, Himanshu Gulati still won second place with 49 to 38 places, after a “voting duel”.
The first two places on the list are considered safe, while the third place may be more uncertain.
Gulati is therefore now likely to have a new term in the Storting. Liv Gustavsen gets third place.
According to a recent poll, the FRP is likely to get three parliamentary representatives from Akershus in the next term.
– Deeply grateful
Gulati tells NRK that he is grateful for the placement.
– I am deeply grateful for the confidence to continue as a parliamentary representative in next year’s elections. Now begins the real work of getting the Progress Party’s message to voters, says Gulati.
– Why did you choose to compete for second place? Akershus Frp has three representatives in the Storting today, right?
– I have been second in this period, and a lot of teams have suggested more to me. Therefore, it was natural for me to be there, even though it was a divided committee.
Gulati is 32 years old. He was previously Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice of Frp. He commented in particular on asylum and immigration cases.
Gulati has also led the Youth of the Progress Party (FpU). He was the first leader of a Norwegian youth party with a multicultural background.
Limi continues on top
Hans Andreas Limi kept his place at the top of the list according to the recommendation of the nominating committee.
Gustavsen, who fell from second to third place, has been a member of the Storting since 2017. It will meet if any of the permanent representatives cannot attend.
If Akershus Frp only gets two permanent representatives in the Storting in next autumn’s elections, she will continue as first deputy.
Anette Elseth from Lillestrøm Frp takes fourth place on the list.
