A serious health minister addressed the situation in Belgium at the government press conference on the situation of the crown on Monday.
– Seven weeks have passed since the infection really took off in Belgium, Høie said and showed a graph of the development in Belgium where the infection arrow goes up.
– In October, it exploded. Now 600 people are admitted to the hospital every day and 160 people die every day, Høie said.
– If we do not stop the spread of the infection in Norway now, we could be in a similar situation in seven weeks, warned the Minister of Health.
– We have to take control of the infection before it really accelerates. We may not have that opportunity for a week or two. Now we have that opportunity. If we don’t take advantage of it, Christmas could be marked by illness, death, and crowded hospitals.
– Belgium is not a forecast for Norway, but a story about what to avoid, Høie added after questions from the press.
5000 crowns for quarantined hotel
Part of the corona infection comes from people traveling from abroad. The government has thus strengthened its control.
Today, the rules on quarantined hotels for all travelers from red countries come into force: now all visitors to quarantined hotels must do so, unless they have their own home in Norway, or the employer has arranged quarantine facilities .
If you are traveling from abroad, you must pay the NOK 5,000 deductible for ten nights in quarantined hotels, unless you have your own home in Norway. The rules go into effect today. Employers must pay NOK 1,500 per day for their stay at the quarantine hotel.
– The quarantine period is not shortened even if the test is negative. It can be difficult to receive visits from girlfriends, grandparents, and other family members.
– But we do what we can to control and prevent infection, said Justice Minister Monica Mæland.
Students or others with a family and permanent residence in Norway can live at home with the family, Mæland notes.
Working to reach immigrants
Health director Bjørn Guldvog emphasized that various immigrant groups are overrepresented in infection statistics.
– This may be related to health competence, language skills, living conditions, vulnerable occupations, frequency of contact with family and relatives and travel outside the Nordic region. Therefore, we have directed a lot of communication towards these groups, said the health director.
Therefore, health authorities are now actively working to reach immigrants and show, among other things, informational videos in various languages on Facebook.
