Hi, I’m an alcoholic

Everyone who has searched A meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous recognizes this phrase. In low voices, all meeting participants openly say the few strong words and their own first names in the room. They are usually adults of both sexes. The intention is for everyone present to acknowledge their substance abuse problem and begin to process the self-inflicted shame that most people with alcohol problems feel. Alcoholism is and will be an embarrassment to most people regardless of age. Therefore, much of the drinking is often done in secret.

This week we have I was able to see and hear on NRK Dagsrevyen and on the TV show “Innafor Ung Alkis” that many 17-year-olds are already “hard-core” alcoholics. One girl openly told him that she drinks a whole bottle of vodka every day for the whole week! Others prefer whiskey or other liquor and are also poured with beer. A teenage girl who said she had started “quitting” has now switched to drinking several bottles of wine a day. Every day it is important to get to the post before it closes.

Opinions: “For you at NAV, I am completely insignificant …”

Even for an adult Formerly an alcoholic with many years of teetotaler experience, this was deeply shocking and very disturbing news. Huff so sad! All the young people we met on the television show hoped to keep this violent alcohol abuse hidden. Of course, they were unsuccessful, and fortunately many were offered professional help through friends or family.

But only five percent of young people with alcohol problems even ask for support to get out of addiction. The road to a more sober and moderate life is usually very long and winding. He tells everyone. Therefore, young people are struggling with exactly the same challenges as desperate adult alcoholics. The only difference is that young people, according to themselves, have much more time to admit that they are alcoholics. They also openly say that they don’t think so much about the huge health and social costs that alcohol abuse imposes on the community.

For most of the young On the NRK TV show, “Innafor Ung Alkis,” an alcoholic is synonymous with a tired old man or a supposedly decadent bitch. They like to sit on a bench in the park or on the dock with a plastic bag full of beer cans by their side or with a bottle of liquor in their inside pocket. Young people are not like that! They’re pretty and lively, and they shake their cups cool, even if they drink “a little too much sometimes.”

One thing is shame. Another thing is hopelessness, loneliness, nerves, anxiety and the failed threat that they will be able to stop drinking:

‘The intoxication is so delicious. The days go by without demands or problems, and you relax, ”says a girl who has just turned 20. “I love to drink, laugh and have fun! Alcohol is the first priority! ”Exclaims an equally handsome young man. He says he likes to get drunk every night of the week. Life is a cohesive party!

Frode Rekve from the sidelines: “Here is a tribute to you, who with patience and care helps our little ones to do magic before Christmas”

None of the young Alcohol users on the NRK show “Innafor Ung Alkis” would admit that they had a problem with alcohol the first time they faced it. Even though they drank a bottle of liquor every day. But at the same time, everyone was inwardly very grateful when someone was encouraged and asked, and perhaps even offered help and support. Alcoholism is a truly stubborn thing. Hardly anyone comes out completely alone from this drug abuse.

I write from experience. In my profession it was very common to go out for a beer or five after night shifts in the newsrooms. In a way, alcohol became part of the job for several of us. For some, it unfortunately went completely wrong. He was also close to me. However, thanks to an exceptionally wise, kind and patient wife and very decent children, family and friends, I thankfully got on the water cart on time. A very supportive employer also finally gave me an additional opportunity and luckily everything went well.

But King Alcohol he’s cunning and always hangs out on the net. When, after several years of continuous total abstinence, I thought that I could now bear to take a very small hit again, I suddenly almost got stuck in the masks again. The old craving for alcohol appeared, and the new self-delusion and secret drink were not far off. Desperate and embarrassed, thankfully I recovered very quickly again. Professional assistance and full new support from the family have taught me that alcoholism is actually something of a life sentence for many. But at the same time one is condemned to great freedom: a delicious and inalienable free life without the many negative aspects of alcohol.

I hope the editors and the people behind NRK’s ”Inside Young Alkis” have opened people’s eyes to the severe alcohol abuse that exists among too many of our young human beings. So it’s not just adults who are alcoholics. Fortunately, there is great comfort in the whole thing. There are many, both individuals and organizations, who are more than happy to help out and help!

No other warnings I wish you all a very good weekend and time before Christmas with the blessing of the government and the Christian People’s Party of reducing alcohol taxes and expected record sales at the beer counter and in Vinmonopolet!
