13 years ago, developers were asked to secure an area with fill. It was right next to the field where the landslide occurred. Various documents provide over several years an idea of the assessments that were made before and after the houses that were taken over by the landslide were built.

On Wednesday, a large landslide occurred at Ask in Gjedrum municipality. 31 houses were destroyed by the landslide. Seven people have been confirmed dead and three missing.
For several decades, the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) has carried out investigations and assessments of soil conditions at Gjerdrum. Before the development of the Nystulia residential area, where the landslide occurred, it was known that there were significant deposits of rapid clay in the area.
