“We need a good understanding of how the situation we are in now can also affect the Norwegian economy in the short term,” says Finance Minister Jan Tore Sanner (H) in a press release.

On Tuesday, the government established the “Norway by 2025” committee, which will examine how the consequences of the virus outbreak, development in the international economy, infection control measures and economic countermeasures will affect the development of the Norwegian economy until 2025. .

– The decisions we make in the future will be important for our society for a long time. With a good knowledge base, we can establish measures that help us create a society in which we can create more and include more even after the crown crisis, says Sanner.

The committee will be chaired by partner Jon Gunnar Pedersen of Arctic Securities. He also has previous political experience, including as Secretary of State in the Ministry of Finance from 2013-2015.

Furthermore, the list is characterized by a number of the best Norwegian companies and academies. This includes former DNB chief Rune Bjerke and CEO Kristin Kragseth at Vår Energi, chief economists Øystein Dørum and Roger Bjørnstad at NHO and LO, as well as NHH rector Øystein Thøgersen.

In the coming years, the expert group will provide ongoing analysis and descriptions. Here, the committee will propose specific measures for further value creation.

The committee intends to conduct a comprehensive analysis in the first quarter of 2021, but shorter analyzes will also be presented during work. This will be done on an ongoing basis, and the Ministry of Finance has asked that the first one presented in early September be reflected in next year’s state budget.

The committee has been commissioned by the Ministry to analyze the changes affecting the Norwegian economy with special emphasis on the following points:

  • The importance of the pandemic for value creation in Norway
  • Productivity in Norwegian businesses and industries, including increased digitization
