On Wednesday morning, Director Camilla Stoltenberg of the National Institute of Public Health reports on the new order of priority for the coronary vaccine.
– We see a change in the pressure of the infection and we must make an adjustment based on a precautionary principle, he says.
FHI now sees the need to prepare the vaccination of the highest priority groups with the health personnel together with the oldest, that is, with the first shipment of vaccine.
– Health personnel have always been prioritized, it is just that until now we have had risk groups, the oldest, such as those that should be first in the order of priority, Stoltenberg tells TV 2.
Must take priority
Vaccines are established for 15,000 employees in the specialized health service. The primary health care service can receive up to 20% of the doses distributed to the municipalities.
– There are 370,000 health personnel in the country. Currently there are not enough vaccines for everyone, says Stoltenberg.
Therefore, priorities must be established within the group of health personnel.
NIPH has created criteria that can help establish priorities.
– In practical terms, this means that the municipal health service must analyze which groups of personnel and people among the health personnel are absolutely crucial for them to maintain capacity, he tells TV 2.
– What type of health personnel are we talking about?
– It can be, for example, emergency services, it can be in hospitals, clearly working in intensive care units, says Stoltenberg.
You can use multiple doses
In addition to the tight order of priority, Stoltenberg says that all doses from the vaccine vials can now be used.
Vaccine maker Pfizer is adding two additional doses as a safety margin, and it is these doses that will now be used.
– That’s good news. This means we have access to more doses faster, he says.
When more than five doses can be obtained from the vaccine vials, all doses should be used, he says.
_ We recommend that you try to get more than five doses if there is an excess of vaccine in the vials, says NIPH Director Camilla Stoltenberg.
Norway had previously chosen to analyze whether the additional doses should be used. Denmark and the USA have also decided to use all doses. It can provide significantly more capacity.
