– What should I say and where should I start? It is very heavy and incredibly sad to have this on my shoulders, and at the same time knowing that I am the culprit in this case.

This is how the 31-year-old began his explanation in Moss District Court on Wednesday morning.

There he laid all the cards on the table and explained how he became a murderer on Jeløy in Moss exactly one year ago. He then strangled his girlfriend in her 50s.

– Argued with neighbors

The man says he and the deceased woman met through mutual acquaintances and became lovers about a year and a half before the murder.

The man sits quietly on the witness stand and speaks sparingly as he chronologically traces the months leading up to the murder.

According to him, the relationship with the woman was good for a long time, despite an age difference of more than 20 years. But the relationship eventually turned turbulent as well, and the age difference became a problem.

It also ended in a fight with the woman’s neighbors.

– He had set up a stage and discussed openly with one of the neighbors. They sent me home and after that she wanted me to be more invisible, she explained.

In the time that followed, he often came through the basement door or porch entrance when he visited her.

Drowned after the meeting

In the weeks leading up to the murder, however, a month passed without their seeing each other. It was because the man was serving a three-week sentence for driving under the influence with an ankle brace. In court, the prosecutor referred to text messages that could indicate that the woman wanted to end the relationship, but the man says he did not interpret the messages as such.

And when they met again at her apartment, he explains that he was happy to see her again.

– It seemed like a good reunion. We drank wine and watched television, he says.

He says they both went to work the next day and therefore went to bed relatively early. Only then did a disagreement arise.

The man describes feeling rejected and frustrated. According to his explanation, he ended up suffocating her.

Later, what happened is that he was also accused of desecration.

During the night and the next day, the man describes that he was about to act on automatic pilot and without any clear plan. He also drank more alcohol.

– I was in a state of shock and panic. Somehow he was not present. What happens if a family member or neighbor knocks on the door? I don’t know how to put it in words. He was very scared, he says.

Was found dead

However, it would be a while before they found the woman. Because when the man aired the apartment and by his own explanation grilled chicken early in the morning, it had become Tuesday, November 26.

He stayed in the apartment all day. They both ate and drank alcohol.

– I was in a state without plans and intentions with nothing. I kept going through the apartment. Cooked again. Airy with all windows and doors open. I ripped scratch cards and listened to music on the radio, he explains.

It wasn’t until 4 or 5 p.m. on November 27, more than a day after the murder, that he transferred the deceased to the car. At the same time, he carried several more items to the car, before returning to the women’s apartment.

Colleagues notified

That day, however, the woman’s companions were also concerned. She had not shown up for work two days in a row, nor did she answer when called. The man explains that two of his colleagues knocked on the kitchen window that day.

He introduced himself as her boyfriend.

– I said I tried to catch her. But it was a lie. But I gave them his full name and number, he says.

However, the comrades had also alerted the police, who also showed up.

– I sat on the couch with the TV on and all the blinds down. Then suddenly I heard someone say “Hello, is there anyone here?” from the hall. Then the police had come in, he says.

The 31-year-old defendant was arrested and already that same night he admitted during police interrogation that he had killed the woman.

According to the indictment, she died of suffocation. The man is also charged with desecration. In court on Wednesday, the prosecutor began by saying that the question of whether the 31-year-old killed his girlfriend on purpose, whether the coronation can be proven, as well as the question of sanity, will be central in court.

For the past year, experts have evaluated the man and concluded that he was criminally sane.

Suspicious death

– He won’t hold out with an “excuse”

Where the 31-year-old murder defendant first sat quietly on the witness stand, he gradually becomes much more affected by what he tells himself.

And when he talks about his thoughts on this today, he bursts into tears.

– I think a lot about the afflicted. It is full of remorse and guilt, and it does not hold up with an “excuse.”

– I’ve done something I don’t understand anything about. We have argued before and have been rejected before. But where did this come from, for me it is completely unreal and very incomprehensible, he says.
