“The president has possibly had the worst two weeks imaginable a month before the election,” Republican Party strategist Ken Spain told NBC News.
November 3 is for Americans who have not yet voted at the polls. Challenger Joe Biden is now a big favorite for Republicans to try to limit the damage to post-Senate and House elections, according to Spain.
– Many losses in the future
Ken Spain worked for the Republican Party’s election campaign apparatus when Barack Obama crushed John McCain by seven percentage points. Now he fears the party will experience the same, that a top Democratic presidential victory could lead to Republicans losing seats in Congress as well.
– In 2016, the president was a guiding star. Now it’s more of an anchor for the party. There is no doubt that there will be many losses in the future. Six months ago, Republicans hoped to take Senate seats in Colorado, Arizona and Main. Now, instead, they are concerned about the outcome in South Carolina, Georgia and Kansas, says Spain.
Donald Trump failed to reverse the trend in the election campaign in the first presidential debate. Then he himself was hit by the crown last week. Polls now mean the party is on the verge of abandoning the presidential race and instead looking for where the next battles lie.
It can turn into a landslide victory in the elections
According to a BBC review of the most recent polls in tip states, it is only in Texas that Trump is leading. Biden leads in 12 of the tip states, while there is a stalemate in Georgia.
In national opinion polls, Biden leads by 10 percentage points. It is possible to win the presidential election even if you get the fewest votes, but with such a huge lead, it will take a lot.
Brendan Buck, who works for the Republican Party and was previously an adviser to President Paul Ryan, says it is rational for the party to now use resources on parties that can actually win.
“We need to protect the Senate and limit the damage to the House of Representatives,” Buck told NBC.
– They can’t say it out loud, but the president is probably already finished. A Republican majority in the Senate can balance the Biden administration and a Democratic House of Representatives. Republicans also need to make sure it’s close at hand to win back the House of Representatives in 2022, says Buck.
