The security strike has lasted 12 weeks. The night before Wednesday a new solution proposal was sent.

Never before has Norway experienced a security strike that lasted as long as this year.

The strike takes place on Wednesday in its twelfth week, and several escalations have been reported in the last week.

The night before Wednesday, the Norwegian Workers’ Union sent a new proposal for a solution to the strike by the security guards to NHO Service og Handel.

– The proposed solution does not involve financial changes beyond what is already in the agreement, but does contain textual clarifications, including the legitimate right to a fixed salary for security guards. This is a proposal that can lead this conflict to a solution, says union leader Anita Johansen in a press release.

He points out that the consequences for clients in the security industry are now so great that both parties must be aware of their responsibility and contribute to a solution. Security companies, with one exception, are willing to accept the proposed solution.

– We have done our best and ask that the employer do the same. We are open to dialogue at any time, says Johansen.

Unattended alarm station

On Tuesday, the guard strike intensified further. Now it goes beyond the alarms that can be about life and health.

On Tuesday night, 95 new members of the Norwegian Trade Union Confederation went on strike, all Securitas employees. They claim that a total of 1,525 of their guards have gone on strike since midnight Wednesday.

According to the company, this means that they can no longer keep operations running at the alarm station.

Guards working at the station, among other things, receive emergency telephones and transmit alarms to emergency services. The alarms that are monitored here can be about life and health.

Regional Director Dorothy Billett confirms to VG that the station is no longer staffed.

– Our communication services, emergency telephones, emergency telephones and emergency telephones are services that are affected by this and that means that we do not have personnel to attend to the alarms that come in, write to VG in an email.

According to Billett, the company has also informed authorities about the situation.

Legal instrument

VG has attempted to obtain a response from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs regarding the absence of Securitas services that may endanger life, health, safety or threaten vital social interests.

The Ministry has not responded to VG’s questions in this regard.

If a labor dispute leads to this, it may be relevant for the government to step in with a mandatory salary board.

When Minister Henrik Asheim (H) asked him, among other things, how serious he sees the situation in the strike of the security guards and if the minister believes that the conflict between the parties affects life and health, the ministry responds :

– The strike is a legal tool. It is also the responsibility of the parties to find a solution in this situation. The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is following the strike in the usual way.
