Three teenagers entered this tunnel in the middle of Oslo. Only two of them made it out alive.

After two weeks in a coma, Oskar Widuto woke up with severe burns. ‘We think of the tunnel as abandoned. Current? Why should they use electricity in abandoned trains? ”

Gry Warsla lost her son Even. “Wanting so much to see someone again and never have her again … is so final. Never again, never again.”

Even Warsla got on a parked train and got electricity. I was only 15 years old. The trial against Bane Nor begins Wednesday.

Trains 69-56 had done their part. While it was still in operation, it was carrying round-trip passengers on the Gjøvik line. Now it had stood on its own for six months, discarded, scrapped and tagged, parked in a dark tunnel in the middle of Oslo, where only the stations changed the city lights they let in from outside.

Sometimes people would enter the 220 meter long culvert where the train was standing. Graffiti had not come by itself. Used blankets, sleeping bags and mats indicated that some people used to spend the night there. The Filipstad area was fenced off. But at the bottom, the fence was just over 1 meter high and had a hole through which you could pass.

Outside, the city was as safe as a capital Oslo can become. Inside was a high voltage system with 15,000 volts.

On the afternoon of the last Sunday in February 2019, two 15-year-old boys and a 16-year-old girl entered the area. Their movements were captured by a video camera.

Sleeping bags. Sleeping pad. And not least labeling. The Filipstad underground area in central Oslo has long attracted outsiders. Stig B. Hansen

Report of the Norwegian Accident Investigation Board for transport: 16:10:40 Three people approach the sewer and disappear outside the coverage of the camera.

The boys were very good friends. The girl had been the girlfriend of a boy for four months. Later that day, they agreed to celebrate her 16th birthday with tacos and cake. But now they entered the tunnel towards the place where the second and third carriages of the train were hitched. The ladder was closed with a climbing protector, but it was possible to get up on one side. The train was marked with yellow warning signs with the inscription “Danger of death from high voltage”, but it was dark and several of the signs were small.

They began to climb onto the roof of the train without thinking about the fact that electricity is life-threatening in such an insidious way – it doesn’t smell. It is not heard. Not seen. You don’t notice it until the impact hits.

Kl. 16:29:59 A flash of light appears. This indicates that the overhead contact line system was short-circuited and is assumed to be due to the youth coming into contact with the overhead contact line.
