Carrie O’Connor, 38, was loading a box into the elevator in the block she lived in, when the elevator suddenly moved.

She was found lifeless in the elevator shortly after. It was the police who found her, Police Superintendent John Boyle tells CNN.

Investigators have concluded that the death was an accident. Boyle says O’Connor died of suffocation as a result of something heavy breaking his chest.

The accident occurred in Boston, United States.

Neighbor Leanne Scorzoni witnessed the accident

– It was horrible. I wish I hadn’t heard that. Never. It wasn’t even a scream. I can’t explain what it was, Scorzoni told WBZ.

She says another neighbor helped her carry a box into the building and that she chose to go upstairs. She allegedly warned O’Connor and told her to be careful.

Dated elevator

According to Boston.com, the elevator had recently been inspected and approved by a testing company.

Avis describes the elevator as “dated”.

You have to pull the door, then go inside and then push the button. But if you have something in the elevator, you can activate a sensor, explains Scorzoni.

– He thinks that whatever she was trying to get in there hit the sensor, and then it started to move.
