RESPONDING: AUF Secretary General Sindre Lysø Photo: Tore Kristiansen, VG

The AUF reacts strongly to the fact that they first learned of a secret report claiming that there is a “culture of fear” in the Trøndelag County team, through the media.

Published:

– We are not aware of such a report, and in no way have we had contact with the control committee at Trøndelag AP about such a report, says Sindre Lysø, AUF general secretary, in an email to VG.

Tuesday night mentioned VG, a report produced by the Trøndelag control committee, which claims that there is a culture of fear among former and current members of the local youth party.

The report is labeled “confidential”. VG has obtained access to the source document.

The report reproduces allegations of internal circumstances, including harassment, member deception, manipulation and photography of highly intoxicated young members in their underwear, allegations of stealing AUF money, and repeated personal attacks.

– Reacts strongly

VG contacted AUF before the newspaper covered the report, with several questions about the content. VG also asked if the Trøndelag Labor Party contacted the youth party during work and was allowed to provide input.

On Tuesday evening, General Secretary Lysø replied that the youth party had not had such an opportunity.

– We relate to the internal notification routines in AUF and the Labor Party. I react strongly to the fact that I have not been informed of a report made by a county team in the Labor Party other than through the media, and I react strongly to the fact that the control committee in Trøndelag AP has not contacted me. as AUF general secretary as usual on AUF related matters, writes Lysø.

The party secretary in the Central Labor Party, Kjersti Stenseng, tells VG that they have not asked for such a report which has been made now.

– The report is drawn up by the Trøndelag Labor Party control committee, it was not commissioned by us and the party will not process it centrally. How the control committee has worked and what methods it has used must be held accountable, says Stenseng.

Silent committee leader

The chairman of the control committee is Olav Huseby, a veteran of the party and former deputy of the Storting. Huseby has not responded to VG’s repeated questions about the report.

The report has been prepared for the board of Trøndelag Ap.

Lysø will not answer questions about the content of the report.

– We never comment on internal notification cases, and we cannot enter notifications that have been previously handled, writes Lysø.

– It should be safe to notify in AUF, and one should always be sure that cases are handled properly according to statutes and guidelines, writes the secretary general.

“Speak up and fight for power”

AUF is Norway’s largest youth party with around 14,000 members, with many later becoming active in the Labor Party. Trøndelag AUF is the largest and most powerful county team in the organization.

The stories in the Labor Party report span the past decade and several are more recent.

A former AUF member is quoted as follows:

“It was not about politics, it was about getting to this and that position, about backbiting and power struggles, about driving people away from the throne. You had to participate in a power struggle to participate.”

In the report, the Control Committee calls for the Trøndelag Labor Party to address a “culture of fear” in the youth party.

“Therefore, the control committee takes very seriously what has emerged (…) a series of diplomas claim that several young shop stewards have felt uncomfortable and expelled from the AUF. For some of them, the experience has had great human costs. For the party, it means that the talented and idealistic young people have disappeared. “

VG has requested a comment on the report from newly elected county leader Emilie Kleiven Græsli (20) in Trøndelag AUF. She has not responded to VG’s questions. Neither does former county leader Julie Indstad Hole.

Kjerkol: – A little shaken

Ingvild Kjerkol is the leader of Trøndelag Ap.

– Commenting on a report received by the media has been difficult. The Trøndelag Labor Party board has taken care of the control committee business that we will deal with during the annual meeting period we have left behind, he tells VG.

– Do you worry when you read what is in the report or what is reproduced in the media?

– What is reproduced in the media is not positive. I think everyone who reads it will be a little shocked. It is important that these cases are dealt with according to the guidelines that we have for this in the Labor Party. I am very concerned that they continue. It is the only way to handle demanding cases.

The Trøndelag Ap County Council has previously considered a report on the recruitment of members in AUF, but not this report.

– Have you seen the report?

– The Trøndelag Labor Party board has not considered that report, says Kjerkol.

– Cases related to the organization and people are dealt with in accordance with our guidelines. The county team board is not the right body. The Control Commission carries out its work independently.

– The control committee must be responsible for the documents it has drawn up. I am responsible for the matters that the board has dealt with.
