Katrine Lunde (40) had a fantastic game when she returned to Norway’s goal against Romania. Later, she was moved by the reception she has received from her colleagues.

KOLDING (Nettavisen): It is very unusual for Camilla Herrem to be speechless, but in the end she did so in her tribute to Katrine Lunde following the goalkeeper’s performance in her 300th international match for Norway.

Initially, Lunde was not supposed to be with the Norwegian team at the European Championships because she was pregnant, but after a miscarriage, she decided to sign up for the service.

It’s been a year and a half since Lunde’s last international game, and according to experts like Gunnar Pettersen, it’s been a while since he was in his prime due to injury issues.

Lunde: – It moves me to think about that.

Against Romania, however, he closed the cage in the second half and gave his best in a period when Norway really needed him.

– It’s fantastic to join this gang, a lot of energy, and it moves me a lot to think and talk about it. I know they wish me all the best and have supported me at all times. It’s been a lot of ups and downs for me the last six months, and I know they are on my back all the time. I am very happy with the way they have received me, says an excited Lunde to Nettavisen at the post-match press conference.

And when Camilla Herrem is flabbergasted with admiration, then you know the performance is exceptional. Although she is not entirely dumb.

– It’s just fantastic, and it’s not hard to see that it belongs. She goes out and turns it off. She shows that she has the routine. 300 internationals, it seems. I am incredibly proud of Katrine and the way she appears both on and off the field. I must say that I have great respect for Katrine as a handball player, but also as a person. That he enters the first game and stands as he is, there is so much respect that I have no words, says Herrem and receives a pat on the shoulder from Lunde.

– When from it’s empty of words so we can only move on, TV 2’s experienced handball commentator Harald Bredeli laughs in the press room after the match.

Hergeirsson: – I didn’t expect this

National team coach Thorir Hergeirsson admits that Lunde exceeded expectations upon his return to Norway.

– It was very funny. There are many class rescues. Save penalties and good shots from good positions. I’m not surprised, but I didn’t expect him to deliver more than that round, after playing little. It shows she has it in her, and that’s in line with the reports we received from Lene Rantala, from training, and an internal match with our reserves in Kristiansand. We are very happy about that, Hergeirsson tells Nettavisen.

Lunde admits there were some nerves involved and says she is not very happy with what she accomplished before the break, but is now looking forward to getting back to the national team.

– I was nervous and excited about the way. I have trained well with the recruits in Kristiansand this past week. I haven’t played club handball for a long time, and it’s been a year and a half since I played games and trained with them. So you’re excited about what it will be like, but I know them well and I quickly slide into the environment, says Lunde.

Norway is in full swing after the initial group match and is therefore ready for the main round. On Tuesday it will be clear which three teams will advance from Group C and become Norway’s rivals. Croatia is ready, while Hungary, Serbia and the Netherlands battle for the other two places.
