Health director Bjørn Guldvog warns that strict measures will be presented on Thursday to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
The health director expresses concern about the sharp increase in people infected with covid-19 and says that it is necessary to control the spread. If nothing is done, Norway may also have to close the company, as other countries in Europe have had to resort to.
– There is a dramatic increase now with outbreaks in more than 60 municipalities. We have recommended powerful measures to the government, Guldvog tells NRK.
Thursday press conference
The government will hold a press conference on Thursday after Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) briefed the Storting on handling the corona pandemic.
The Minister of Health and Care Services, Bent Høie (H), has previously announced that the government will present powerful new austerity measures to reduce infection this week.
Guldvog points out that the number of cases of infection has tripled in the last three weeks. If this number is not reduced, he believes that up to 100 people can be admitted to the intensive care units of the country’s hospital at the end of the month.
Serious situation
– Now the situation is serious. We have a chance to avoid what we consider to be a total lockdown, but the time frame in which we can avoid it is now a few weeks, says Guldvog.
He describes measures to slow down social contact between people, nearby areas where many people gather and stronger measures to prevent import infections, as well as general measures to prevent mobility between countries.
