The box in one of the hatches on this year’s Christmas calendar may pose an explosion hazard.
It is often not on the main list of what you want to hear during Advent.
This week, many beer lovers were in for a strange surprise when a special beer can on the Gulating calendar had a defect.
Emil Johnsson saw the warning, but when he had to put the box in the fridge, it was too late.
– I had seen online that people warned against the box. I was thinking of putting it in the fridge to maybe save it, but when I lifted it from the calendar, it exploded, splattering all over my freshly painted wall.
Glad it was a box
The beer in question is Santa’s Milk & Cookies, a stout from Hammerhead Brewery in Trondheim. On most calendars this was in frame 2.
On social media, there are some who report and document that both plot 16 and plot 23 have a problem.
Gulating has issued an apology on Facebook to everyone who may have experienced this with his Christmas calendar.
Johnsson has his own homebrew and says it is one of two things that have happened.
– I think it is good that they send a letter, although it may have been bad news. For this they should have discovered it long ago. This can happen when the beer is not fully fermented before putting it in the box, or because there is an infection in the box.
He is very happy that we are talking about a box and not a bottle.
– It’s lucky, as they have a pressure relief as a built-in feature. If it had been a bottle, it would have been broken into a thousand pieces.
I’m sorry
Gulating has sent an apology on Facebook, which also warns customers to open the box at hatch number two, if it appears to break.
The managing director of Gulating’s beer sales in Bodø, Stian Kristiansen, says this is the first time something like this has happened to their calendars.
– Fortunately, this is the first time that happens. We have a brewery that has not been able to test its own beer, which is normal.
Kristiansen says the store alone has sold around 750 calendars in Nordland, while domestically it has sold around 16,000.
But there aren’t 16,000 explosive beer calendars out there, according to Kristiansen.
– It was just the first “batch” for the brewery. It is very unfortunate that this has happened, but those who do this with at least take a new beer with us.
– Have you thought about washing walls during Advent?
– Hehe, don’t hesitate to come and tell me if there is a problem. We are not responsible for the damages, but I know that a laundry agency has been called if those things have happened before. There is no problem.
