TRONDHEIM (VG) Friends Adrian and Andreas spent an evening with the boys in the infected pub in town. They are now in quarantine.

Adrian (20), Andreas (21) and Fredrik (20) come straight from the coronate test when VG meets them at the Trondheim Torg intersection in the center. The trip to the pub with the boys on Saturday took an abrupt turn yesterday when they read the newspapers online about the outbreak:

– We thought it was okay to go there. Then VG slapped us in the face a few days after there was an infection there. So it was a bit unfortunate, Adrian says.

Last night they were told they had to test themselves.

– But it was a bit expected, we had seen that those who were there on Thursday and Friday were in quarantine, so it was not surprising that we also had to do it, says friend Andreas.

Municipal superior: infects more easily

The municipal chief doctor Tove Røsstad in Trondheim claims that a total of around 1000 people have been quarantined as a result of the outbreak. These have been in the Little London bar in the period of October 8-10, or are close contacts with people who have been infected in the outbreak.

We see that it is easier to infect, that is, it takes less time to become infected. You don’t need to have as close contact as we usually experience it. Plus, you get sick faster, so the virus behaves differently, Røsstad said. to VG early Thursday.

I thought the pub was a safe option

Friends have no symptoms or have started to “feel” symptoms after learning of the outbreak.

– You can’t be completely hypochondriac either, Adrian thinks.

The gang is studying in Trondheim, but has grown up in Mo i Rana and wanted to take their first trip for a while.

It is not by chance that they chose the Little London pub: they thought there were fewer students there and therefore less risk of infection.

Praise the infection control measures in the pub.

– There weren’t many people there, but there were quite a few people. We sat at the table, then people came and took orders. There was a guest who went from table to table, who was expelled. They took good care of it.

They were there until it closed, then they went on to the party. From Saturday until the quarantine message on Wednesday night, they have gone to school and lived life as usual. They hope to test negative and have not infected anyone.

Friend Fredrik was not on the trip to the city, but he was quarantined because he lives with his friends. Lectures at Sonans, NTNU and BI should give way to online studies in the future.

– Fortunately, Fifa21 has come out, it’s a good moment, says Andreas.

The boys wonder how to get home. They don’t take buses.

– We cannot carry Voi (electric scooter, editor’s note), when we have to touch the wheel, they wonder.

They landed on the three-quarter walk uphill to the house they rented in Byåsen. The test results will arrive tomorrow.

Fear of infecting others

WORRIED: My friend Kristian is also waiting for the test results. He took a plane and was at work, and he says the trick is whether you’ve infected the people around you. Photo: Private

His friend Kristian (21) is back in Mo i Rana and tells him on the phone that he is worried. He is also waiting for the test results.

– If I’m infected, I may have started an outbreak in Mo. That’s what’s scary. I am sure I will make it. The trick is if I have infected people around me, he says.

From being in the bar on Saturday until being quarantined Wednesday night, he has flown, gone to work and reunited with his family. Lots of people, in other words.

– I think the message came too late. I know someone else who lives in Trondheim who got them before, while our gang got them last night.

On Thursday morning, the general manager of the Little London bar, Geir Lima, told VG that they have a record of all the guests and that the place has been disinfected regularly.

– We did a review of these with the infection control office in Trondheim and we followed all the guidelines given by both the state and the municipality throughout the time after we reopened in June, says general manager Geir Lima at the nightclub by VG.

See previous symptoms

The municipal chief says that those infected seem to get sick faster than before:

– We have the impression that the incubation time is shorter. We normally see symptoms four to five days after the time of infection, now it is usually after two. That is my impression, although the figures, of course, vary somewhat, says Røsstad.

The municipal chief emphasizes that nothing suggests that the virus is more serious, although it seems that it is transmitted more easily. No one has been seriously ill until now, but notes that it is mainly young people who have been infected. Most of those infected are in the 20 to 30 year age group.

The outbreak started at a hair salon in Trondheim.

– It was transmitted to a client who infected a close contact, who in turn infected a close contact before the infection was discovered, says the municipal chief.

The municipal chief says they have no unknown sources of contagion.

– We are in control, we follow him closely and we take the proper precautions. This means that many are in quarantine.

No analysis yet

– Trondheim’s municipal chief has the best overview of the epidemiology here and what the outbreak in Trondheim has been like, writes the director of the department of the National Institute of Public Health Line Vold in an email to VG.

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health receives viruses from the country’s microbiological laboratories and characterizes them in detail to monitor changes and evolution.

– Viruses enter continuously for characterization. So far we have not been able to analyze viruses that we can link to the ongoing outbreak in Trondheim, but we are working on this, Vold writes in the email.

Correction: VG quoted Kristian that it could be the first case in Mo i Rana. It is wrong. The municipality of Rana has had 10 cases since the outbreak this spring. This was changed in article 15.10.2020 kl. 22.20.
