Surprising main winner of this week’s price test as the low price chain comes off the podium.
Many Norwegians eat tacos for dinner on the weekends, and if you are one of them, you should see how big the price differences are from store to store.
NOK 84 separates the most expensive and cheapest shopping cart with typical taco products this week, where Enhver.no has compiled the prices of 33 different items. Price tests generally show that discount chains are the cheapest, while supermarkets are at the bottom. In both the first and second quarters of this year, Spar was the second most expensive chain in Enhver’s price test, with only Meny above.
But this week everything is different.
– A juicy price gap on taco products takes Spar to the top. This is the first time they are the cheapest in the eight years that we have tested food prices, says Tom Ystaas, price manager at Enhver.no.
He’s very surprised by the result, which is because Spar is currently running a taco campaign.
– This came completely out of nowhere. Save the gravel kiwi by 1.8 percent, says Ystaas.

Kiwi and Rema, who generally rank first or second, have been pushed to second and third respectively. Therefore, Extra finishes off the podium this week. While it’s quite surprising to see a supermarket pushing discount chains off the cheap throne, there is something else that is more surprising.
– Spar has the highest price on up to 12 of 33 items. This is probably the first time that a weekly winner is the most expensive on a third of the items. It’s great, says Ystaas.
In other words, you shouldn’t shop at discount chains if it’s a taco dinner this weekend, although you do have a Spar store near where you live.
– This shows that money can be made by shopping at Spar, Meny and Obs when they have offers, says Ystaas.

However, he notes that it is rare for a supermarket to be cheaper than a low-price chain. Menu has won once before, but it wasn’t that surprising as there were only items from his ten-kroner market in the shopping cart.
– Menu was more than a winner announced that week, while Spar tops this.

It should be the most affordable
Kristine Aakvaag Arvin, Head of Communications for Kiwi, responds as follows to what she thinks about Spar being much cheaper than them this week:
– This week there were a lot of taco products in the shopping cart. When a supermarket simultaneously runs weekly taco deals, it can exceptionally affect the bottom line. Kiwifruit is the cheapest low-price chain and should be priced low every day, on all items, he says.

The online newspaper has also asked Coop what they think of Spar taking first place and pushing Extra down the podium.
– This is a test that is not very representative of the price level between the different chains. It will be an expensive taco night for these grocery store customers. The extra is cheaper on almost all accessories like cucumber, corn, sour cream and cheese, says communications manager Harald Kristiansen, adding:
– Many customers probably have a drawer full of taco products from last week’s Extra campaign as well.
Please note that prices are constantly changing and may have been adjusted slightly after the price test was carried out.
