Director Håvard Bustnes and Trondheim-based Upnorth Film will receive NOK 1.8 million in grants for the production of the documentary “Trond Giske – Power reigns”, the Norwegian Film Institute reported in a press release.

Bustnes tells Dagbladet that he started filming in August 2018.

– The film tells the story of Trond Giske since he was a youth politician and participated in his first television debate in 1992 to the present. I want to make a film about one of the biggest downfalls in Norwegian politics that is interesting to both Giske supporters and opponents, says Bustnes.

When asked about the latest annual meeting and the dramatic battle for the leadership position in the Trøndelag Labor Party will also be part of the film, he answers yes.

– Yes, we are not finished with the recordings, says Bustnes.

The project follows Trond Giske’s career and fall, NFI states:

“The documentary follows Trond Giske’s attempt to rise after the metoo revelations, and looks back to the time when he was a talented young politician who many thought would become the country’s prime minister, until he dramatically decided to resign from politics after sexual harassment allegations. “

NFI’s film consultancy Helle Hansen justifies the financial support with Bustnes’ exclusive access to Giske. In addition, Hansen believes that it is a film “for both opponents and supporters of the project, the politics and the person of Giske.”

Bustnes was previously known to be present at Trøndelag Labor’s annual meeting last year, where Giske was proposed as a board member, during the wedding to Haddy Njie in Nidaros Cathedral and at the Trondheim Labor election vigil at Royal Garden.

“Trond Giske – Power reigns” has a budget of almost 5.7 million crowns. The project was for a time a collaboration between Upnorth Film and NRK, but VG announced in April that NRK was retiring as a partner.

According to NTB, the documentary focuses on the entire history of Giske, from the AUF period to the present day. Thus, it will also be a film about the great controversies around Giske in recent years.

– Yes, I’ll go into the notification case. It’s impossible not to include him in a movie about Trond Giske, Bustnes has previously stated to NTB.
