The daughter of the woman who had an affair with the former king of Belgium wins the right to use a royal title.
For more than 20 years, the Belgian artist Delphine Boël (52) claimed to be the daughter of the former Belgian King Albert II.
Boël claimed that his mother and the king had an affair between 1966 and 1982, and in 2013 Boël took the case to court to find out if the former king was actually his father.

Albert long refused to take a DNA sample, before an appeals court fined him 50,000 crowns until he underwent a test. When testing earlier this year showed Boël to be his daughter, he admitted to being her father.
Now, a court in Brussels has ruled that she must be considered a Belgian princess and that her two children will also receive the title of prince and princess of Belgium.
After fighting a seven-year legal battle to prove that she is the daughter of the former king of Belgium, she has now earned the right to be recognized as a princess.
According to The Guardian, Boël is now happy to be treated in the same way as Albert’s other three sons, including the current king, Philippe.
– She is very happy with this judicial decision that ends a long process that has been very painful for her and her family. A legal victory will never replace a father’s love, but it does give a sense of justice, Boël’s lawyers say according to the newspaper.

According to the Brussels Times, Boël will now change his surname to the one used by the king, “for Saxen-Coburg-Gotha”. The 52-year-old is awarded the title of Her Highness, the Princess of Belgium.
