– It is good that money is now being set aside for Rødsliane’s landslide protection on national road 13. But we would have already started construction, says Suldal Mayor Gerd Helen Bø.

Gerd Helen Bø (Sp), speaker at Suldal.

Since the 1990s, the township and its residents have struggled to build a tunnel beyond the most dangerous stretch of landslides in Rogaland.

In the last six months alone, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration has recorded 12 major and minor landslides on the stretch from Nesvik in Hjelmeland to Røldal in Ullensvang.

– This is

a school path and a work path.

It is not sustainable to have this insecurity on you that you can have a landslide on you at any moment, says Bø.

The Government proposes in the National Transport Plan for 2022–2033 that NOK 200 million be reserved for Rødsliane in the first six-year period and NOK 696 million in the last period. But they will not set a date for when construction of the tunnel can begin.

– We cannot give an exact date because the new national transport plan will be administered according to portfolio management, which means that when everything is ready, it can be lifted and started earlier, says Minister of Agriculture and Food Olaug Bollestad by KrF. .

She is also Rogaland KrF’s first candidate for this fall’s parliamentary elections. Together with the Liberal Party Minister for Trade and Industry Iselin Nybø and the Conservative Mayor of Strand Municipality, Irene Heng Lauvsnes, they have made the trip to Rødsliene to say that there will now be money for a tunnel that secures the area.

– The fact that we invested NOK 200 million in the first period is the most important because it says that the Storting should be ready to allocate the money when the project is ready, says Nybø.

– Are you sure the Storting will allocate the money?

– Yes, I’m sure. This is so important here locally. It is a racial protection project that I think it will be difficult for other parties to oppose.

You will have the total amount in the first period

But the Suldal mayor of the Center Party will fight for the Storting to allocate the money faster than the government proposes.

– I hope the opposition can turn it around and put the full sum

896 million crowns

in the first semester.

But it hasn’t been long since there was a major rockslide a few miles from where the tunnel will go.

– There are other exposed areas on this road, so we know that the tunnel does not solve all the problems here. But we know that this is one of the most important things to the people who live here. Then we get to take the second eventually, Nybø says.

– Is there a lot of money to spend in a municipality with few inhabitants and relatively little traffic?

– No, managing racial safety is an important district policy. If we want people to live in the districts, to use the districts, then we must make it possible and safe for people to do so. Spending money on career insurance is important to this government and this is one such example.
