– We obviously have a problem, says Prime Minister Stefan Löfven on gang crime in Sweden. You don’t want to link the problem with ethnicity.
During a press conference on Monday, the prime minister faced a statement from the acting chief of the National Police, Mats Löfving.
He said in an interview this weekend that there are around 40 family-based criminal networks or clans in Sweden. They have members who have reportedly come to the country solely to organize crime.

– We have a problem with organized crime in Sweden. There is no doubt about that, Löfven said at the press conference.
He did not want to specifically discuss what Löfving said in the interview, but emphasized that all of society must come together to fight the problem.
– It is necessary to be tough in the rush here and now, and work long term, said the Prime Minister.
In the past, he has often emphasized that gang crimes have socioeconomic causes. At the press conference, he was asked if this type of crime is also linked to immigration.
– We must address what is illegal, no matter what the motive is. I don’t want to link the crime to ethnicity, replied Löfven.
