Late Thursday night, the Turkish club confirmed that Elabdellaoui was injured when fireworks exploded at his hand in connection with the New Year celebration. The episode should have happened at home with the profile of the Norwegian team.
Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim and several representatives of the club’s management are said to have been with Elabdellaoui in hospital after the accident. Vice President Abdurrahim Albayrak spoke to various media outlets outside Liv Hospital in Ulus.
According to NTV, Albayrak stated that the club’s management rushed to the hospital as soon as they learned of Elabdellaoui’s situation.
“We had an unfortunate accident in the last minutes of 2020. We are all very sorry,” Albayrak said.
Shared photos
At the same time, he felt strongly provoked and cursed that the ambulance staff members who treated Elabdellaoui should have taken photos of the Norwegian and posted them on social media.
– An ambulance employee at the scene took photos and shared them on social media. It’s a shame, said the vice president, continuing:
– This person (Elabdellaoui) has three children and Galatasaray has 30 million fans. Our friend is loved by thousands of people, family and friends in this country. What kind of conscience is behind such an image? It’s a shame, right?
Albayrak warns that the episode will continue.
– We will follow this to the end. We won’t let this go, he said.
Help the family
Elabdellaoui should be treated for burns to her face. It is feared that the Norwegian’s vision will be impaired.
– His eyes are washed out and hopefully he will clear things up. Doctors do everything they can. After washing his eyes, we know the result, said the vice president of Galatasaray.
He later confirmed that the accident occurred at the defender’s home.
Elabdellaoui, 29, must have been conscious the entire time.
– I spoke with him and he said “thank you very much.” Friends from the club traveled to his home to help the family, Albayrak said.
The Galatasaray captain, Arda Turan, is also said to have been with Elabdellaoui in hospital after the accident.
Hard fall
It has not been an easy autumn for Elabdellaoui after the Greek Olympiakos signing. In November, it was his positive corona test that led to the entire squad of the national team being quarantined, so the Norwegian national league match against Romania was canceled and an “emergency national team” had to stack up for the decisive match against Austria.
The 29-year-old from Oslo developed at the Manchester City academy. After hiring at Strømsgodset, Feyenoord and Eintracht Braunschweig, he played one season for the German club and six for Olympiakos before becoming a player for Galatasaray last summer.
He also has a rental stay at English Hull behind him. He has 49 international appearances for Norway.
