The search operation ended around 2:00 p.m. Wednesday.

– First the lost boat was found, which was empty. The search continued using boats and two helicopters. A little later, the missing person was found dead and transported ashore, says serving rescue leader Eirik Walle at the Main Rescue Center.

Family members have been notified.

The boat was found adrift by the Idar Ulstein lifeboat in the area west of Vallebaane, an area north of Runde and west of Godøya, in Sunnmøre.

The coast guard ship Njård has coordinated the search at sea. Two lifeboats, two firefighters and two Red Cross boats participated along with several volunteers.

– In addition, we had a rescue helicopter from Florø’s CHC helicopter service and another helicopter usually found in the North Sea was also organized in the search, says Walle.

A “Man Overboard” message was also sent over the coastal radio to all ships in the area.

Should take out pots

The police were notified around kl. 7:00 p.m. that a man disappeared after he went to throw pots into the sea on Tuesday morning in Godøya, in the municipality of Giske.

Relatives had not heard from the man since. 13.00.

All ships in the area were asked to search for the missing person Tuesday night and the Main Rescue Center was connected.

The man’s small pleasure boat was last observed in the early afternoon between Breisundet and Fauskenbøya on the outskirts of Ulsteinvik, reports The rescue company on Twitter.

Digital sport with card

The main rescue center first stated that they made a communication search call.

The search for communication means that a message has been sent through the ship’s radio and family and acquaintances are contacted. In addition, they look for digital clues such as the man’s mobile phone signal.
