– There is a wide-ranging fire in the works and we are putting staff in place to handle this incident, says Service Manager Christer Gilberg at Rogaland Fire and Rescue.

The fire has spread to a neighboring building and there is a danger that it will spread further.

The quenching and quenching work is underway. There are four fire trucks with crews in place and more are on the way. There are also two ladder cars and a Panther fire truck from the airport on site.

The container contains oil and there are some dangerous goods in the vicinity. The fire has spread to a neighboring building.

A safety distance of 700 meters has been established around the container.

Started in a hole

The police have received information that the fire started in a well or pit that contained, among other things, oil. This has been extended to the container containing several gas cylinders with unknown content.

It is still burning. And the personnel of the place has been evacuated.

Traffic is blocked towards E39 and towards Mekjarvik. Furthermore, the ferry dock in Mekjarvik will also be closed until further notice. Therefore, MF Vollsøy will go from Kvitsøy to Fiskepiren in Stavanger, with departures every hour.
