Fire in dense wooden buildings in Florø – NRK Vestland

At 9:32 p.m., the Naudetatan was notified that there was a fire in a wooden house in Strandgata in Florø.

Only around 10:50 p.m. could firefighters say that there was no longer any danger of it spreading.

– We have control of the fire. We have been able to fight our way through the attic and have gained full control of the fire and smoke, says Task Manager Synnøve Domben.

Many of the houses in this part of downtown Florø are nearby. In addition, they are built in wood.

– We have to maintain control overnight, says Domben.

The fire service is now working on post-extinction. Smoke divers have searched the building. Firefighting work in the attic of the house has been difficult.

It must have started burning on the second floor of the house.

The five who were in the building quickly got out. A total of thirteen people were evacuated. No one should have been hurt.

Almost 25 people from the fire service were sent to the fire. We have two tanker trucks, two fire trucks and a fire truck with lift in the city. Fire crews from the neighboring town of Eikefjord were also dispatched to Strandgata.

I benefited from the elevator

– This could be a big fire in Florø. Our ladder car allowed us to save the entire quarter here, says Robert Endestad. He is an emergency manager for Kinn Township.

First, a common fire alarm went off, without specifying which house was on fire.

– I was scared when I heard that there was a fire between the dense wooden houses, says Endestad.

At most, there were eight smoke divers inside the home, plus firefighters who were putting out from outside.

– It was very demanding to have a fire on the roof of such a large apartment complex. But when we first took control of the elevator, we took control of the situation, Endestad says.

– But of course the most important thing is that we can finish without losing any life, he says.

– I was surprised

Malvin Horne owns the house next to the fire.

– I was surprised when I received a phone call that there was a fire in the house next door, he says.

He quickly reached the city. According to Horne, this is one of the oldest houses in Florø.

– It was built at the end of the 19th century and looks like when it was built, around 1900, he says.

– It is sad what happened, but it seems that the firefighters have made a formidable effort. It is simply to be impressed.

Horne’s own house became all the skin of the fire.

– With a good job of the ladder car, they managed to protect the houses that are even closer and further away.
