All passengers will be evacuated after the Viking Line ferry Amorella ran aground near Åland on Sunday. No one is in danger and no one has been injured.

The ferry, which was heading from Turku to Stockholm on Sunday, ran aground in Järsö, in the Åland archipelago. There are 207 passengers and a crew of 74 on the ship.

The passengers were called to the deck where they were issued life jackets and are not allowed to return to their cabins, according to Expressen.

The Swedish newspaper has contacted one of the passengers on board the ferry.

– At first I was a bit uncomfortable when the alarm went off. Then there were some who were scared, but now everyone is calm and waiting. I assume the extent of the damage has not yet been mapped, Eva Vaihanen tells Expressen.

It’s unclear what caused the grounding, but a passenger says he heard a long, scratchy sound, and when he looked out, he saw the boat coming very close to shore.

The Finnish maritime rescue service claims the situation is stable, but the ship is stuck at the bottom.

The maritime rescue service says that there are no people in danger, but that a dozen boats have arrived and that the captain on board has decided that all should be evacuated.
