GJERDRUM (VG) A third person has been found dead after the landslide in Gjerdrum. This was announced at a press conference on Saturday night.

Efforts are being made to free the last of the dead.

Mayor Anders Østensen appreciates the rescue work and expresses his grief over another death.

– We are happy that discoveries are being made, but we deeply regret that the tragedy has claimed another life, he says.

The fire service says they are now working from the west side. They say it is a demanding job.

– Continuous danger of landslides

The fire department says they send out a dog to mark the area with finds, before taking the dog out and dispatching crews.

– We think we have so many benchmarks now that we can work until between 01.00 and 04.00 tonight.

The fire service also notes that the job is risky and demanding.

– The risk of landslides is still present.

The resources that have worked today in the landslide area are USAR personnel trained to work in such conditions, reports the fire service.

USAR stands for urban search and rescue, and it is a rescue team with special experience in rescue and search in populated areas.

Seven are still missing

Seven people are still missing after the landslide that took place in Gjerdrum on Wednesday. The first deceased was found and transported out of the landslide area yesterday.

Police were notified of the landslide at 03.59 on Wednesday night, December 30. Since then, there has been an extensive rescue operation in the Ask landslide area in Gjerdrum municipality.

A large number of rescue teams have participated in the search for people, but the situation in the area is challenging. Entering the landslide zone is still a great danger, where ground conditions are still considered unstable.

The rescue team has used, among other things, helicopters, camera drones seeking heat and dog teams in the search for survivors. Plastic mats were also used to penetrate the area.
