APPLICANT: On Saturday, the masses of buildings in the area of the landslide are searched to find survivors.
GJERDRUM (VG) A fourth person has been found dead after the landslide in Gjerdrum. This is confirmed by the police to VG.
– We have made a new discovery of a dead person. It is in the same area as number three. The two people have already been transported out of the area, Knut Hammer told police at a press conference at 9pm on Saturday.
Hammer tells VG that they are working to obtain intelligence on the search. In collaboration with geologists, they calculate where each housing unit has moved, and it is about 2-300 meters.
“We purposely go where we think people are,” he says.
At a press conference at 6 pm on Saturday, it was also reported that a third person had been found dead.
Also on Friday and early Saturday, a first and a second person were reported to have been found dead. A total of four people have been found dead after the landslide.
Fire Chief of Operations Kenneth Vangen says they are still looking for survivors.
– We have some points of interest that we will investigate during the night. We must search among these. We hope it takes a few hours. It is important that we do not go and randomly look here. The site of the injury should rest for a few hours so that new smells can emerge and so that the dogs do not mark us.
Demanding job
After the third death, Mayor Anders Østensen thanked the rescue work and expressed his grief over another death.
– We are happy that discoveries are being made, but we deeply regret that the tragedy has claimed another life, he says.
Along the road between Ask and Kløfta, torches are lit for the dead and missing. The light link is several hundred meters long.
The fire service said at the previous press conference that it is a demanding job.
– It is soft and muddy, and there is a lot of debris. We’ve built walkways and trails out of wood and Styrofoam materials, says operations manager Knut Halvorsen in the fire service.

The fire department says they send out a dog to mark the area with finds, before taking the dog out and dispatching crews.
– We believe that we have so many benchmarks now that we can work until between 01.00 and 04.00 tonight, said the fire service at the press conference at 18.
The fire service also pointed out that the work is risky.
– The risk of landslides is still present, says Halvorsen in the fire service.
The third find is likely in the same building as the second, Hammer told police. At 9 p.m. it was announced that the distant find is in the same area as number three.
The Norwegian Directorate of Energy and Water Resources (NVE) is working to assist in the rescue operation.
– We monitor the edge of the avalanche throughout the entire avalanche continuously, they say.
The resources that have worked today in the landslide area are USAR personnel trained to work in such conditions, reports the fire service.
USAR stands for urban search and rescue, and it is a rescue team with special experience in rescue and search in populated areas.
