Finance, Investments | Called bitcoin “silly”, but: – I can’t bear to see Røkke make money and not me.

Øystein Stray Spetalen makes a total change in his vision of bitcoin. Now he bought bitcoins himself privately and bought himself on a crypto exchange, writes Finansavisen.

– Bitcoin today consumes as much energy as all the energy consumption of Norway. It is extremely hostile to the environment. If one really wanted to say something about bitcoin, the authorities and the EU should immediately ban it. Then, it considerably reduces CO2 emissions.

Øystein Stray Spetalen said this at the DNB Invest conference in early March, according to Dagens Næringsliv.

– It’s silly. We are doing well with the payment systems that exist today, Spetalen continued.

However, within a few weeks he changed his mind and changed course. He recently conducted an interview with Finansavisen, after joining the proprietary side of the Norwegian crypto exchange Miraiex.

In the interview, he says that he met the founders of Miraiex the day after the podcast was recorded in early March, and realized that he was wrong about bitcoins.

– When the facts change, I change, Spetalen tells Finansavisen.

– And when I also read that Kjell Inge Røkke had entered bitcoin, it was pretty obvious. I can’t bear to see Røkke making money and not me, he continues.

It was in early March that Røkke launched crypto company Seetee, which had bought bitcoin for NOK 500 million.

According to Finansavisen, Spetalen has bought bitcoins, but for less than Kjell Inge Røkke.
