A man in his 40s was arrested by armed police in Overhalla in Trøndelag on Wednesday night after attacking father and daughter with a knife in a house.
The woman in her 30s and her 50-year-old father were taken to Namsos Hospital and the emergency room in Namsos with stab wounds.
– We got an emergency call at 00.50 from a guy who said he was stabbed She was also his daughter, Operations Director Wenche Johnsen at Trøndelag Police tells NRK.
Cohabitant is charged
Three armed patrols were dispatched to the scene. The man in his 40s who is now accused is cohabiting with the woman.
Three minor children were inside the home where the stabbing occurred last night.
They have not suffered physical injuries and are now cared for by the child welfare service and the municipality’s crisis team.
– We will monitor the family and the local community around. This is a serious situation, says the Mayor of Overhalla, Per Olav Tyldum (Sp), to NRK.
But the mayor is very happy that those affected have come out better from this episode of violence than was feared today. Such an incident affects a small community.
– This is a small municipality where everyone knows everyone, and I think we are all affected. It hurts a mayor when he wakes up from such a press release, says Tyldum.
I tried to enter the house again
At the same time that the two in the house were in telephone contact with the police, the defendant tried to re-enter the house.
– They kept the door closed, says Johnsen.
The man then left the scene in a car.
– We had three patrols that moved and were armed, says Johnsen.
Not seriously injured
The main task of the police was to get the ambulance to treat the wounded safely. The injured were taken by ambulance to hospital.
On Wednesday morning, Namsos Hospital confirmed that it had admitted a woman with stab wounds. She is receiving treatment and is hospitalized.
His father was taken to the emergency room and there he received help.
The police used pepper spray
Around 01.50, the police observed the defendant who allegedly drove towards a discount center and a sign before being stopped by the police.
– He was detained at a gas station, not far from where the victims were, Johnsen tells NRK.
The police have known the accused before, and pepper spray was used during the arrest.
– They took him for a medical check-up before being arrested, say police.
Will conduct interrogations
– The police have launched an investigation and will carry out interrogations of both defendants and witnesses, as well as technical investigations on the spot, says Line Marthe Fuglum Juliussen, head of investigation for the Trøndelag police district.
Police believe they have a solid basis for suspicion, they write in a press release.
– We see that a quick response time was important to take control of the situation, both in terms of attending to the offended and to get the now accused arrested. Now the focus is on conducting interrogations, technical investigations and mapping the course of events, Juliussen says.
