Fate Day: Believe More Speculation

Donald Trump and the Republicans have desperately tried to have the election result rejected as a result of “extensive electoral fraud.” In an interview with Fox and Friends on Sunday morning local time, Trump confirmed that he has not yet given up.

– No, it’s not over. We will continue and continue to move forward, Trump told the channel.

On Monday, the Electoral Assembly will decide the fate of Donald Trump. If Joe Biden is named the next president of the United States, he is the hook in the door for Trump.

American experts, however, doubt that he will admit defeat and fear more speculation by the current president.

- The nail in the coffin

– The nail in the coffin

– There must be a real landslide

The 538 electoral delegates must in principle give their vote to the candidate who received the most support in the state they represent. In 32 US states, as well as Washington DC, this is required by law, while voters in other states run the risk of being replaced or fined if they don’t.

If delegates vote based on certified election results, Biden will receive 306 votes. At least 270 voters are needed to win the election and therefore it is highly likely that Biden will be proclaimed the next president of the United States.

– In some cases, however, some have been seen to vote against the outcome in the relevant state in protest, American expert Svein Melby tells Dagbladet.

– But if there is any hope for Trump, there must be a real landslide. The electoral candidates are mostly loyal party members, and therefore 36 delegates are highly unlikely to turn their back on Biden.

If, contrary to expectations, it does happen and Trump gets four more years in power, it will probably end up on the Supreme Court table.

More speculation

Since election night, Donald Trump and his supporters have refused to acknowledge the loss.

– There is nothing to indicate that he will admit defeat after Monday’s decision, but now there is nothing more he can do to try to change the electoral result. It’s the hook on the door, says Melby, adding:

– But you will continue to protest and make public speculation.

Civita adviser Eirik Løkke agrees with Melby regarding the president’s behavior going forward.

– Trump will not accept defeat and, in all likelihood, will continue to refer to the election as a fraud and will try to carry out a clown coup. He will regret until Biden takes over in January, he tells Dagbladet.

– Worst start in US history

The result of the assembly of electoral delegates will be approved by Congress on January 6, 2021.

– Trump will probably try to influence Congress not to accept the decision of the delegates, but there is no danger of that happening, Løkke tells Dagbladet.

Despite the president’s desperate attempt to remain president, Løkke has no doubt that he will leave the White House in January.

– The problem will not be to get Trump to move; it will likely disappear from the White House in transition. But before that, he’ll do everything he can to create trouble for Biden. All of Trump’s speculation has already led millions of Americans to consider Biden an illegal president.

– It’s probably the worst start for a president in American history.
