Husøy

The fishing boat has delivered cod to Husøy in Senja for several years, says Rolf-Bjørnar Tøllefsen, who owns a fishing boat on the island.

– A sad day

Rolf-Bjørnar Tøllefsen lives in Husøya in Senja and owns a fishing boat himself. On Tuesday morning, several of his boats were fishing in Grimsbakken, when the “man overboard” message came over the loudspeaker.

– They immediately set course for the ship, but did not reach it until they were informed that they had picked up the person on board, he says.

Rolf Bjørnar Tøllefsen (H) is a member of the Senja municipal council.

He knows nothing about the circumstances surrounding the incident. It could have been that the man had a discomfort, or it could have been a work accident. This is now being investigated by the police.

– In any case, this is a reminder that being a fisherman is a dangerous profession. When you’re at sea and something happens, help doesn’t come right away. For this reason, it is important that the crew have safety courses and first aid training, so that they can handle such a situation until help arrives.
