Prior to the development of the residential area at Nystulia in Gjerdrum, developer Odd Sæther consulted with NGI, which has carried out investigations and assessments of soil conditions in Gjerdrum.
– NGI provides advice, but the responsibility for carrying out the security measures does not lie with us. From what we can see from the review, this work has been done in accordance with the current requirements of the Planning and Construction Act and other guidelines. A more comprehensive review of the case could provide an answer to this, says NGI CEO Lars Andresen in a press release.
– Too early
The Gjerdrum disaster hit NGI employees hard, who since the landslide have worked hard to investigate the ground conditions around the landslide area and advise emergency authorities on where it is safe to travel.
– Basically fast clays are stable masses, where in Norway we build houses to live. What is the cause of the landslide that has hit Gjerdrum? It’s too early to say anything about it, Andresen continues.
– No dangerous
The police have opened an investigation and a thorough review of the incident and the course of events will be carried out.
– This will be an extensive and thorough job. Hopefully we’ll get answers here about causation and what we can all learn from it. Out of respect for the subsequent work, therefore, we do not wish to comment further on the course of events and the evaluations carried out previously, says Andresen.
Andresen tells TV 2 that he understands that others who live in fast clay are now worried.
– Living on living clay is not dangerous in itself. Action is taken in such areas. Rapid clay is as solid as any other type of clay, unless there is an alteration or something unforeseen as in this case.
