The City Council has decided that the social closure of Oslo will last until December 14, before a new valuation is made.
Last week, 1265 cases of infection were recorded in Oslo, the highest number in a week so far in the pandemic. It is true that it is now being tested to a greater extent.
Faced with the contagion situation, the city council has decided to extend the strict measures that were introduced just over two weeks ago. This means that:
- All indoor events will continue to be prohibited
- Cultural and leisure activities remain closed
- Stores should ensure that it can keep a distance of two meters
- Sanitary Napkin Order Expands
- Broadband sports will continue to be banned
- Complete pour stop continues
- Infection levels continue in schools
– I am very happy that the police are following up on violations of infection control rules. If you violate infection control rules, you risk prosecution, says City Councilor Raymond Johansen (Labor Party) at Thursday’s press conference on the status of the crown in the capital.

Infection continues to rise in Oslo, but growth is significantly lower than in the weeks before the measures were implemented. While the percentage increase in infection at week 46 was 31 percent compared to the previous week, it fell to 6 percent at week 47.
The development gives cause for cautious optimism, believes the city council leader.
– The strong increase that we have had for more than a month has stopped. Hopefully, the infection will start to subside as a result of the strict measures, he says.
But we have no guarantee that the increase in infection is over, Johansen emphasizes.
– We have seen examples in other countries that the infection has decreased a little before it rises sharply, he adds.

Worried about the east side neighborhoods
Johansen also expresses concern about the infection in the eastern districts, especially in Groruddalen. The eastern border districts have topped the crown statistics of the municipality of Oslo in recent weeks if one looks at the number of cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants.
– A huge communication work is currently being carried out to send information to the entire population. We know that not everyone speaks Norwegian so well, he says.
The city council leader recalls that everyone in Oslo can request a crown test if they wish.
– In some settings, there may be a stigma around the infection. We are working to make it easier for those who live in highly infected districts, says the city council leader.

Prayer to the government: – A separate package of measures is needed for Oslo
He acknowledges that they only reveal a proportion of total infection cases and is concerned that infection among the 9-19 age group is increasing. The City Council is closely monitoring the situation, Johansen stresses.
– We will consider implementing more specific measures in schools in the areas with the most infection, he says.
The town council leader also made a prayer to the national authorities:
– We need a separate package of measures for Oslo for nightlife and tourism. Compensation plans must affect those most affected. I hope the government will respond to our cry for help and provide a guarantee of survival to companies that were profitable before the pandemic.

The Minister of Health and Care Services, Bent Høie (H), has asked people to make a plan B for the Christmas celebration and prepare for the fact that you may have to cancel events.
Christmas will not be normal, confirms Raymond Johansen. He describes Christmas as a time of risk and emphasizes that the risk of infection during the holidays will easily increase if we do not reduce the number of infections in time.
– Above all, I wish myself a Christmas with low infection rates. The only way we can fulfill this wish is to continue to be careful. We must stay here in Norway and I strongly urge not to travel abroad at Christmas, he says, noting that the infection exploded after people traveled abroad this summer.
– We cannot anticipate anything, but it is possible that we can glimpse a light at the end of the tunnel. If the infection clearly subsides after two weeks, we may consider making a little relief in the weeks leading up to Christmas. But everything indicates that we will have to live with most of these measures by 2020.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Erna Solberg said the strict nationwide measures in Norway should last another three weeks.
In the capital, which has had even stricter rules and a social shutdown since the night of November 10, more than 170 people remain infected on average daily.
