The government does not yet allow direct flights from the UK to Norway, and the measure may be extended over the New Year.
The closure of flights from the UK will run until December 30 at 5 p.m., the government said in a press release on Monday.
Thus, the flight layover lasts for more than 24 hours.
It is still possible that the flight’s stopover will extend throughout the New Year, the government says.
It will prevent the virus from spreading
The measure is taken to prevent the spread of a new variant of the virus that has been discovered in the UK.
– It is still necessary to maintain the measures so that we buy time to prevent the possible spread of the virus in Norway, says the Minister of Health and Care Services Bent Høie in the press release.
– As the situation is now, we do not have the ability to track and control all travelers who would be coming from the UK to Norway via ordinary air traffic. This could lead to a lack of control over the spread of the new, significantly more contagious variant of the virus, Høie says.

Mutation detected in Norway
Direct flights from the UK were suspended on December 21 and had an initial validity of two days.
Several countries have suspended flights from the UK after the variant of the virus discovered in the country was estimated to be more contagious than the original coronavirus.
On Sunday, two cases of the British virus variant were detected in Norway.

The new variant of the virus does not appear to pose an increased risk of severe disease and should not prevent vaccination.
In addition to the runway, stricter measures for UK travelers have been introduced, which apply until 10 January. This means, among other things, that travelers must take the corona test within one day of arrival, and then again a week later.
