“Everyone” will contribute to the search

It has been a week tomorrow since her family reported the disappearance of Christoffer Lysne Elgåen (29) from Aurland. The 29-year-old’s last reliable observation was made the Friday before, when he went home after visiting friends.

– There are many indications that it has fallen into the fjord, says Mayor Trygve Skjerdal in Aurland.

The mayor says that the whole town shows up to search for Elgåen and that employers have given employees time off to search.

“We’ve been looking for him for a week, and the list of volunteers is so long that those leading the search must say high, so there aren’t too many involved,” Skjerdal tells Dagbladet.

– The answer says a bit about how this affects the people. There are many who want to help the family obtain a certainty, he says.

– Terribly heavy

Today, 25 boats and 60 people participated in the search in the Sognefjord, according to the mayor. In addition, a request is being made for an ROV, a remote-controlled submarine, from Bergen, deep in the fjord.

– Today’s search was unsuccessful, says the mayor.

He says that it is primarily a group from the Red Cross and firefighters who are looking for the 29-year-old, in addition to the volunteers.

– The vast majority here probably know Christoffer or his family. He has been very active in both organizational life and music life and has had a workplace where he has become familiar with and had contact with many, says Skjerdal, who describes himself as a friend of the missing person.

– I know him very well and I think this is terribly heavy for him and for the family. It’s also hard to see how your close co-workers experience great yearning, says the mayor.

In the township, not much else has been an issue in the last week.

– This is what takes the main focus. As mayor, you have to stand up, and it’s not difficult, but it’s completely natural, he says.

Clue found

After the search operation was launched, it was a long time before crews found traces of Elgåen.

Among other things, the 29-year-old’s mobile phone was found in the rugged and rugged terrain between the county road and the fjord, the mayor told Dagbladet earlier this week.

– At the site, there are steep mountains above and very deep in the fjord. The difference in height from the road to the fjord is six to seven meters, says the mayor.

Knut Arne Klingenberg police station manager in the police told Dagbladet that the fjord is about 400 meters deep where the mobile phone was found.

– We don’t have much else to move on, apart from the information we have received from friends and family. He has been traveling from one point to another, and there he has disappeared. This is an accident as we see it, says Klingenberg.
