Equinor blacklisted from Singapore

[ad_1]

Dagbladet knows that Equinor was blacklisted in Singapore this summer.

The blacklisting came after a dispute over the use of foreign labor.

– The Singapore authorities put Equinor on a “watch list” in July 2020. The reason was that the authorities thought we had too many foreign workers relative to local workers, press spokesman Fredrik Jebsen Bråten confirms to Dagbladet.

The company’s operations in Singapore have also come under critical scrutiny.

This summer, the Bellona Environmental Foundation reported welding damage during the construction of the Johan Castberg production ship in Singapore.

And this fall, a fire and intestinal bacteria leak at the Norwegian facility has put Equinor in the negative crosshairs of the Storting.

Recently removed from the list

Equinor remained on the blacklist in Singapore until December and claims that the issuance of work permits for foreign workers is now functioning normally.

– Equinor has reviewed our project implementation model and staffing needs of our project organization with the Singapore authorities. The consequence was that some applications took longer to process, says Jebsen Bråten.

It emphasizes that the case has no consequences for Equinor’s progress in Singapore.

“Very Concerned” About Equinor Poop Foam

– Very serious

Yesterday, the Bellona Environmental Foundation sent a warning letter to the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority about the development of Johan Castberg’s Equinor at Sembcorp Mariner’s shipyard in Singapore.

The caveat pertains to blacklisting and, according to Bellona, adds to a host of operational issues at Equinor.

«The blacklist arises as a result of the harassment of workers and the disadvantage of Korean contract workers.“Writes Bellona in a press release.

– These are very serious matters that Equinor is accused of here, says Bellona leader Frederic Hauge.

Bellona has previously reported that much of the welding work has been performed incorrectly and that there are significant errors in the computer software used to design the production vessel. Bellona’s two earlier warnings prompted the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority to launch an investigation into the Castberg project in Singapore.

– A culture has been revealed at Equinor’s work in Singapore that is serious to Equinor’s reputation as a serious international player.

Wayward poop foam

Dagbladet also recently reported on the leakage of gut bacteria at the Equinor plant in Melkøya. Here, the septic tank, in the form of foam with fecal bacteria from the management building, was spread throughout the plant in the areas where the workers were staying.

The case was reported to the police and Equinor promised that a solution to the problem is on the way.
